Teamchat

Greetings folks!

Haven't been online for almost half a year now, i'm just wondering what happened to the teamchat? Some days ago I checked the greasemonkey-script but after typing in my API-code I got a 404-error.

I'm no expert but did I just made a mistake? Or is the teamchat down like for a long time now?

In case it might be importat, I took/installed the one from weewarspy:

http://weewarspy.co.uk/userscripts/teamchat/

How to Manually Install Greasemonkey Scripts in Iron/Chrome

I've been trying (not very hard I might add) to do as the subject of this post suggests for a while but seemingly without success... until now that is. Anyway, I thought I'd share my little tidbits with other Weewar users in case they are suffering from similar confusion (with apologies if this is already common knowledge).

The first important point to note is that Greasemonkey support is built into Iron/Chrome. You do not need to install a Greasemonkey extension. However, you cannot go installing scripts willy-nilly, there is a particular procedure you have to install.

Most general instructions for adding GreaseMonkey scripts to Chrome will tell you that you have to click on the "install" button on Userscripts.org. Which is fine but what if the script isn't avaiable on Userscripts.org, or the version there is out-dated with little, to no possibility of being updated? Furthermore, attempts to add scripts from random locations will be met with a message telling you that you have to install scripts from the Chrome Web Store. Surely there has to be a way to do it manually! There is! Follow these instructions:
First you need to download your script at the source, for example Daithi's Teamchat script. Make sure it's saved with a user.js file extension and note your save location.

Open Iron/Chrome, click on the wrench or menu button and go to the tools menu and choose extentions.

Now, open a file explorer window and browse to the location you saved your script to. Drag it to the extensions page.

You'll be prompted asking you if you want to add the script (of course you do!). Et voila, it now appears in your extensions list.
Note: It's critical you go to the extensions page before dragging and dropping the script. If you don't, you'll get a message saying that you have to add scripts via the Chrome Web Store and the adding of the script will fail.

Weewar works on the iPad using Puffin browser!

Hi all

I searched the forum before posting this and was surprised to see that nobody seems to have posted about it yet. Apologies if it's common knowledge. I used to play Weewar a few years ago, and was disappointed when I came back to find that it had been converted to Flash so would not work on my iPad. After a bit of googling, I found the Puffin browser for iOS, which clams to support Flash by running it server-side and streaming it to the client. I was amazed to find that it does actually work with Weewar! I don't particularly like the browser, but it's worth keeping it on my device for playing Weewar.

I should add that I'm not the developer ;)

Weewar stats? Where's the working one!!

I know there's a working stats script out there, but for some reason I can't seem to find the right one. Spadequack's from 2009 no longer works, but a friend on here posted a link to a new one in a game, but I don't have that game open anymore! ARGH.

Maybe it was darkbee and maybe he'll come to my rescue

move options

Hi,

I'm trying to implement the move options without doing a call to the server.

It seems that when the unit is near an enemy, it can not move as usually. The radius is less that the mobility (as specified in the specifications page). I receive a error such as <error>Unit cannot move to [8,4].</error>.

The selected tank should be able to go to the hex pointed by the mouse, no ?

Can you confirm that, and do you know what is the move options when an unit is "touching "an enemy ?

Thanks,
MickTaiwan

I can't edit the wiki

I went to update the battle simulator pages on the wiki and found that I couldn't edit anything, I assume because all the pages are protected. I guess spadequack needs to unlock them for edits before I can proceed.

I wonder if there's a way of blocking anonymous edits but allowing registered edits or selecting people who can have permission to make edits. Are either of those two possible? If so can we make that happen.

Bonus calculation help

Hey,

I made a simple calculator to check if it is smart to attack a unit and what the expected deaths, kills and credit costs would be.

http://www.ibattler.com/weewar.php

Now in the formula a bonus variable is used. However i do not understand the description.

If a unit is attacked multiple times during the same turn attackers receive an additional bonus as follows:
+ 1 for each previous attack from a distance (e.g. by an artillery).
+ 1 for each previous attack from a hex adjacent to the attacker and the defender.
+ 3 for each previous attack from a hex on the opposite side of the defender.
+ 2 for each previous attack from any other hex adjacent to the defender.

i understand the artillery part and the opposite side part. However what i do not understand the other 2 rules.
when dos rule 4 and 2 hold?

Weespy or Weewarspy

When I setup weespy I initially used weewarspy.co.uk but due to name a conflict with a old script I decided to register weespy.co.uk instead. Ever since all features have been available at either http://weespy.co.uk or http://weewarspy.co.uk.

I'm keen to use secure http where I can to handle logins and other data submission, this isn't required and the current system is no less secure that non https access on Weewar. Maintaining two domains isn't particularly costly, domains are cheap, however having a security certificate for both is a different story because security certificates aren't cheap, there are free certificate options but some hosting companies don't allow those certificates.
As it happens that particular hosting allows me one free certificate saving me £50, you can see why i don't want to get two certificates so a decision has to be made on which one is kept.

So I have created this vote to gather peoples opinions, I reserve the right to pick the one I prefer but i'd like to see what others think.
