Thanks McMonster, if Jeye says it's unbalanced then it is.. I'm just looking for fair one on one maps, i don't like UTI, because I don't think that map is balanced either.

Either way, should be a challenge to look for a suitable map

Invite me sometime to test that assertion. If I lose, it's definitely biased

I think like some other NM maps, there is very limited room for error/experimentation as red.

True. Everyone has their favourites. Like MM's suggestion of sea then land centric maps - although the ideal is to have a map that has equal emphasis on both aspects. I naturally favour maps with more of a nautical flavour

Knowing the map well does count for something - the most level playing field would be something balanced and unknown.

I totally agree cupcake, I think a brand new map that no one has played before is in order. Maybe someone should create it, then we can get Mr. Stirling to Edit it?.. That's another suggestion

I suck at making maps, but I'll try to create one anyway, just for the hell of it

take mine it's nearly one year old.. and need maybe a little bit more balance (because the first moves are the most important) but it's a quick map

about the position I figured out that some things like position of habour isn't in balance and things like the aid field make not really much sense in the water (except for hovers) and a hill is left too (I would say), don't know I'm not a balance specialist, I try to keep on the rules of the thumb = one move better for the second person , both side should be balanced :s

I think the map could be fine. BUt there's a challenge that that first turn or two basically determines the game.
There's a perception (of mine at least) that the map FEELS unbalanced just because the first turn is SOO important. I bet what happens on the other islands will never change what's been decided by who takes the middle bottom base.
Now, what about placing the starting positions on the two middle-sized islands?

That's what I wanted make today (, because I havn't got the time yesterday)

Hey guys, I took a stab at balancing UTI awhile back: http://weewar.com/map/39170

The starting position in this one is balanced (I believe), and encourages lots of combat relatively early.

I think that UTI would make a great tournament map since it requires a combined effort of air/land/sea forces.

There'll be a few people reading this who know I hate UTI, never play it, don't know what the fuss is all about. But I'm willing to go along with this variant out of altruism

This version changes the opening game significantly, speeds it up and makes it more ..err...cough...obviously balanced. Interesting, I wouldn't be averse

As Copes says, it has a great balance between units - I found occasion to build and use pretty much everything the game offers. People who want to pump out destroyers will be sadly disappointed. I also like the way the income forces you to make difficult choices about the type and location of your builds.

Having said all that, I doubt we'll end up playing it, and there's been some good alternatives. I'm still partial to Shallow Waters - a map I've only played twice, but always found it to be dynamic and fun to watch, never mind play. This presupposes there's a balanced version around, and I agree with earlier points about balancing land and water if we're not having both at the same time.

Whatever is cool by all. It may well eventuate that I never get to play on the next choice

OK, anyone able to get in touch with entregreeneur? Trial player, with 5 games in HQ so I can't invite, and the ones that are still going have private chat. Has been logged in a few times since the weekend, but doesn't seem to be checking the forum.
